About this event

As part of UW Family Weekend, join local artist Anneke Wilder for this all-ages drop-in printmaking workshop inspired by the exhibitions on view. Learn the basics of block printing using a technique called linocut, and leave with your own unique creation! Drawing from the deconstructed botanicals in Joiri Minaya: To Hell With Hibiscus and color-drenched abstractions in "Every Picture Somewhat of an Experiment": Helen Frankenthaler Prints, enjoy this hands-on printmaking experience in conversation with two exhibitions which explore the expansive possibilities of the medium. Bio Olympia-based artist and illustrator Anneinke Wilder holds degrees in biology and studio art as well as a Masters of Environmental Studies from The Evergreen State College and a certificate of Natural Science Illustration from the University of Washington. Anneke has participated in various artist residencies at the nexus of art and science and is a regular contributor to Hyldyr, a PNW-based publication company that combines art, ecology, and folklore. As a fine artist, Anneke draws on her background in the sciences to create detailed watercolors that explore themes of growth and decay-of our bodies, our culture, and our landscapes. Her work often incorporates natural pigments extracted from foraged organic matter such as plants and fungi, and this practice allows her to connect deeply with the environments in which she lives and works. Anneke teaches printmaking and natural dye and pigment orkshops wat the University of Washington Botanic Gardens. You can find her work online and in person at Chatwin Arts in Pioneer Square.
