If you're a Mariners fan, the new manager has made his first big hire. Jason Kanzler, 36, who was introduced as manager Wednesday, is hiring Tanner Swanson as his bench coach, industry sources confirmed Friday.
Swanson, 44, has been on Yankees manager Aaron Boone's staff since 2020. MyNorthwest says he's highly regarded for his work with catchers and is credited with introducing the one-knee-down catching stance, now the most popular method in the pro game. He has no managerial or bench coach experience, but his field coordinator job worked closely with the manager.
