About this event

Celebrate the centennial of Suzzallo Library by exploring its architectural legacy, visionary architect Carl Gould, and the evolving University of Washington campus. Following former President Henry Suzzallo's death in 1933, students demanded the library be named in his honor. Through historic photographs, drawings, documents, and artifacts, this exhibit traces the library’s creation as a Cathedral of Knowledge and the university's intellectual and symbolic heart.

Discover Gould’s influential vision for a cohesive campus plan inspired by Collegiate Gothic architecture, and explore how the university’s buildings, landscapes, and public spaces have transformed over the past century. Reflecting on 100 years of scholarship, community, and architectural ambition, the exhibit celebrates Suzzallo Library as both a landmark and an enduring symbol of the UW experience.
